The No. 4 finish remains the go-to choice for kitchen appliances, food and beverage facilities, elevators, escalators, hospitals, and any environment where stainless steel may come into contact with food. Recognizable by its short, straight polishing marks, this finish is also the simplest to keep looking great over time. Depending on how the steel will be used, the final polishing grit can range from about 120 to 320—higher grit numbers yield finer scratches and a slightly more reflective look. Regardless of grit, the result is a surface whose roughness generally does not exceed Ra 25 µin, making it both hygienic and low-maintenance.
